Rolex Day-Date
It’s not only worn by a few presidents or rich and famous people, the Rolex Day-Date is actually called the 'President Watch’. This Rolex watch stands for luxury, power and prestige. With the displays on the date and day written out in full in different languages, made of gold or platinum this is an absolute banger of a Rolex watch.
The history of the Day-Date
The original Oyster Perpetual Day-Date was released by Rolex back in 1956, which was 7 years later then the Oyster Perpetual Datejust. It was the first ever watch to feature both day and day of the week written out in full. With the release of this Day-Date, Rolex introduced the ‘president-bracelet’. This combines the Oyster bracelet’s three-link look (like the Jubilee from the Datejust) but with hemispherical shaped links.
Both the Rolex Datejust and Day-Date share some similarities, like the Oyster case, narrow fluted bezel and a simple dial with the Cyclops lens to let you view today’s date with a 2.5 factor. Still, the Day-Date differs from its cousin: regarding the display for the day of the week, written out in full in different languages. Another difference is the range of materials, since the Day-Date is available in platinum and gold. Different sorts of gold like yellow gold, white gold and rose gold.
The Rolex Day-Date 36
Just like the original Rolex Day-Date back in 1956, the watch comes as a 36mm case size. Even the watches produced in 2019 look exactly the same as their predecessors, except from the caliber. If you like your watch to be modern but with a vintage look, you might consider the Day-Date reference 128238. This watch comes with a yellow gold case and bracelet with the yellow gold fluted bezel. From simple indices to diamond inlay, everything is possible with these newer Rolex watches.
The Rolex Day-Date was initially produced in yellow gold, but since 2019 there is a variety in gold colors available for this beautiful watch. From white gold or even rose gold, you can now pick your favorite look of the Rolex Day-Date.
Like all the watches from Rolex’s collection, the ‘president’ Day-Date comes with a COSC certificate from the Official Swiss Chronometer Institute. With a 48-hour power reserve and a double quickset function the caliber 3155 was debuted in 1988 and continued to be used in the watches until 2019.
There is a special Rolex Day-Date that stands out from the crowd. The so called ‘Bark’ versions of the Rolex Day-Date were made from the early 1970s to the late 1990s. These watches stand out because of the texture on the bezels and middle links on the bracelet, resembling tree bark. Most of these Day-Dates are made of yellow gold with a yellow gold bracelet.
The Vintage Day-Date
Since the beginning of 1956, Rolex produced the Day-Date in yellow gold. You can now buy your perfect vintage Rolex Day-Date thanks to Wristler. Safe payments and certified dealers only. One of the most searched watches is the Rolex Day-Date reference 1803. This yellow gold vintage Day-Date is priced around €12.000 on Wristler and has a yellow gold president bracelet.
Another rare option of the vintage Day-Date is the reference 19019, an Oysterquartz Day-Date in white gold and a more angular case. This watch is especially rare and popular amongst collectors and enthusiasts.
The larger Rolex Day-Dates
In 2008, Rolex produced the Day-Date II: measuring 41mm, this newer model is 5mm wider than the classic Day-Date 36. It also came with a new caliber, the 3156. Just like the Datejust, Rolex replaced the Day-Date II with the Day-Date 40: measuring 40mm with a new caliber with 70 hours of power reserve.
It’s no surprise that the Rolex Day-Date 40 is popular and highly sought after. The watch is priced around €30.000 and can be found on Wristler. One of the most beautiful Day-Dates around is the rose gold watch with olive green dial (money green) and will cost you around €50.000 on Wristler.
Prices of the Rolex Day-Date
Since the production back in 1956, Rolex started making the Day-Date reference 6612. This watch is available nowadays around €12.000 and has a yellow gold case, bracelet and a fluted bezel with caliber 1055. If you’re looking to spend some more, you might look at the reference 18078 measuring 36mm with a yellow gold case and bracelet. This watch will cost you around €18.000 on Wristler.
