ROLEX 18038 1978 Day Date with thick Case and mega rare dial. Very beautiful and rare Rolex Day Date, reference 18038. This early version from 1978 still has the sought-after thicker case than the later versions. The highlight of this watch is undoubtedly the spectacular and very rare black lacquer dial with baguette diamonds and thread-like rows of brilliant-cut diamonds, known as a ‘string dial’. The dial is also a ‘big Lume’ with larger tritium dots than the later versions, as was customary at the time. This combination makes the watch very rare, as this version was only produced for a short time. Day Dates with rare dials have been in high demand for years and are almost impossible to find in top condition. The movement runs beautifully with a constant amplitude of 265 degrees and has no maintenance backlog. The strap of the reference 8385 is also in very good condition and has the matching clasp code with the ‘C’ stamp.
