The Day-Date history
Rolex released the original Oyster Perpetual Day-Date with both the date and the day written out in full back in 1956. It was meant to be a yellow-gold watch with a bracelet like the Jubilee from Rolex, but with a three-piece link and hemispherical shaped links. It comes in a 36mm with a Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock to let you view today’s date with a 2.5 factor.
Nowadays you could also buy the Rolex Day-Date made of rose gold, yellow gold or platinum and even in two different sizes, measuring both 36 and 40mm. There were some famous people wearing the beautiful Rolex Day-Date, like Jennifer Aniston, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake and stock-guru Warren Buffett.
Different dials on the pre-owned Day-Date
Since the release back in 1956, there were some options regarding the dial color. For starters there is the ‘noir’, a fully black dial without any numerals on it. You could also opt for the silver or champagne dial or even a gold one with diamonds on it. In the past years Rolex introduced some other dial colors as well, like light blue with a platinum case, or even the money green dial on a rose gold Day-Date.

A pre-owned Day-Date for any wrist
Since 1956 Rolex produced the Day-Date in 36mm, and today it is still available. Back in 2008 Rolex introduced the Day-Date II: measuring 41mm it is a bit wider compared to the 36mm. The Day-Date II came with a new caliber: 3156. It features a blue Parachrom hairspring and Rolex’s Paraflex anti-shock system and is protected by magnatic fields.
A white gold Day-Date II reference 218239 can be yours for €30.000. In 2015, Rolex decided to rename the Day-Date II and produced the Rolex Day-Date 40: measuring 1mm less, on 40mm it looks good on the slightly bigger wrists, while the 36mm was still available for the smaller wrists or enthusiasts.
