Rolex GMT-Master II

From a decent ‘Rolesor’ two-tone GMT-Master II to timepieces in solid white gold or rose gold (Everose), there is plenty of choice when you’re in the market for a new, pre-owned or vintage GMT-Master II on Wristler. Rolex produced different bezel colors, dating the ‘Pepsi’ from back in the 1950s already. 

There are some other nicknames available for the GMT-Master II, starting with the red and blue bezel called the Pepsi. The red and black bezel was called the Coke while the black and blue bezel was called Batman. Ever since the launch of the GMT-Master there is the ‘Root Beer’: with rose gold and stainless steel and black and brown colored bezel it’s a beauty.

ince the launch of the Rolex GMT-Master II, it’s one of the most popular watches alongside the Rolex Submariner or the Daytona. For the entry-level Rolex GMT-Masters there are two options: you can look for a stainless-steel case with a black ceramic bezel like the reference 116710LN and it will cost you around €14.000. If you like your GMT-Master II to be a bit more vintage, you can opt for the aluminum bezel like the reference 16710. Rolex produced this model between 1980s and 2007 in different colorways like the ‘Coke’, ‘Pepsi’ or the regular black bezel.

The original GMT-Master II came with a slightly bigger case, calling it the ‘Fat Lady’. These watches were only made by Rolex between 1983 and 1988 with the 3085 caliber which was also used in the earlier Explorer II models. From 2014 to 2018, there is an absolute stunner made by Rolex: the reference 116719BLRO. This has a red and blue bezel which is made from scratch-resistant ceramic. The most important part if this particular watch was the case and bracelet: it was made of white gold and that’s one of the reasons why it’s expensive: you have to pay around €40.000 for a well-maintained version on Wristler.

The Rolex Batman GMT-Master II gets its nickname from the blue and black bezels. You can either opt for the 116710BLNR or the 126710BLNR. Because this particular watch is discontinued, prices started rising since 2019 and you have to pay at least €18.000 for a well-maintained GMT-Master II on Wristler. There was a newer Batman though, which is only available on the Jubilee bracelet and has a 70-hour power reserve thanks to the new 3285 caliber. 

If you want to steal the show, you might consider the full gold versions or the two-tone Rolesor versions of the GMT-Master II made by Rolex. The bracelet comes in your choice of stainless-steel with yellow gold, white gold or Everose rose gold. Models from the early 2000s are popular with a black ceramic bezel and a green dial while the case and bracelet are made of yellow gold only. Since 2018, you can pick another GMT-Master II which was made of rose gold in full. This 126715CHNR feature a black and brown bezel with the 3285 caliber. The 18-karat rose gold (Everose) model will probably cost you around €36.000 on Wristler.

One thing that’s for sure is that the Rolex GMT-Master II is so popular, that the watches aren’t affordable anymore. Starting at roughly €15.000 for a reference 116710LN with a black ceramic bezel and stainless-steel case and bracelet, this is the cheapest GMT-Master II available on Wristler. You can easily spend way over €20.000 for the Batman, Pepsi or Coke.

Or you have to wait around 5 years or more to get your hands on one at your local authorized dealer.
