Heritage Narrative Introduced in the early 1980s, the Rolex Sea-Dweller 16660 — known among collectors as the Triple Six — marked one of the biggest evolutionary leaps in the history of Rolex saturation-diving watches. Positioned between the vintage 1665 and the later 16600, this transitional reference introduced modern performance while preserving the tool-watch DNA that made the Sea-Dweller a legend. This 1984 example features the upgraded sapphire crystal, dramatically increased depth rating, and the improved calibre 3035 with quickset date. It was also the first Sea-Dweller to adopt a thicker case and a helium escape valve engineered to withstand the extreme conditions of commercial saturation diving. At the same time, the matte black dial and tritium lume maintain the unmistakable vintage character of early Sea-Dwellers. Full-set examples from this era have become increasingly difficult to find. With both original box and papers, this piece sits firmly in collector-grade territory, representing one of the most important transitional Sea-Dweller references ever produced.
