Gold and steel Rolex watches
Rolex is known for their ‘Rolesor’ watches, which are made from stainless-steel and yellow gold. Since the release of the first ever Datejust in two-tone Rolesor, the Swiss manufacturer still produces watches in this color scheme today. You can opt for different models with this two-tone look, from a Datejust up to a Daytona or GMT-Master II.
The history of two-tone Rolex watches
Looking back at the early 1950s, Rolex introduced the Datejust in solid gold and two-tone yellow gold with stainless-steel. This two-tone watch was called ‘Rolesor’. Rolex used to produce the Datejust with the Jubilee-bracelet in two-tone, but nowadays you can also get your hands on the Oyster-bracelet in two-tone.
Enthusiasts and collectors will probably opt for the Rolesor two-tone watches, but Rolex also produces the two-tone rose gold and steel watches since the release of the rose gold GMT-Master, Day-Date and Daytona.
Prices of gold/steel Rolex watches
When you’re in the market for a gold/steel Rolex watch, the cheapest option is the Rolesor two-tone Datejust with the Jubilee-bracelet, Oyster-steel case and a yellow gold fluted bezel. These watches can be found on Wristler in a vintage state, starting at roughly €6.500. The newer Rolex Datejust models in 36 and 41mm can also be found in gold/steel, with yellow gold or rose gold. Depending on your wishes, you can spend €13.000 up to €18.000 for the rose gold two-tone Datejust 41 with diamonds on the dial.
The two-tone Rolex Daytona is made of yellow gold and stainless-steel with the Oyster-bracelet, costing close to €25.000 on Wristler for a pre-owned watch, up to €30.000 for the never worn pieces. These Rolex Daytona watches come in stainless-steel, two-tone, solid rose gold, yellow gold, white gold or platinum.
When it comes to the Rolex GMT-Master II, this watch is also available in two-tone gold with stainless-steel, starting with the ‘Rootbeer’ GMT-Master with Everose rose gold and steel. You can also get your hands on the solid gold GMT-Master, but that one is a lot more expensive compared to the two-tone GMT-Master II. Expect to pay around €22.000 for the two-tone GMT-Master II ‘Rootbeer’.
