The Rolex Datejust was introduced in 1945 to celebrate Rolex’s 40th anniversary. It was a groundbreaking timepiece and the first automatic wristwatch to feature a date window that changed instantly at midnight — a revolutionary innovation at the time. The watch debuted as reference 4467, in 18k yellow gold, mounted on a brand-new bracelet design that would become known as the Jubilee bracelet. It also featured a coin-edge bezel that later evolved into the now-iconic fluted bezel. It may come as no surprise, but we consider the Datejust an evergreen classic — and at some point in life, we believe every watch collector should own at least one. At hand, we have a classic reference 1601, featuring a well-preserved 36mm steel case with the iconic white gold fluted bezel in equally nice condition. The silver dial has a beautiful soleil finish with crisp black printed text, giving it that timeless Datejust charm. The watch is paired with a well-preserved reference 6215H folded Jubilee bracelet, with end links marked 55. It comes complete with its original punched warranty paper, stating a sale in Switzerland, as well as a 2019 Rolex service card and the corresponding invoice (noting service costs of over €1,000).
