The Rolex Datejust 36
Since the drop of the Rolex Datejust back in 1945 it measured 36mm with a yellow gold bezel, yellow gold case and bracelet which we now know as the Jubilee bracelet. With its Cyclops lens for the date, it was a spectacular watch for enthusiasts and collectors. In 2016 Rolex brought back the all-time classic and renamed the Datejust the Rolex Datejust 36. This watch came with the 3135 caliber until 2020 and afterwards it was fitted with the 3235 caliber with a 70-hour power reserve.
Famous people and the Datejust 36
Because the Rolex Datejust is one of the most popular watches from the Rolex collection, the Datejust was worn by different famous people and presidents over the years. Winston Churchill wore a Rolex Datejust, but also Martin Luther King Jr., Ronald Reagan and the Dalai Lama.
But also, David Beckham and Jennifer Anniston really love those Rolex watches: they have been spotted multiple times wearing a Datejust.
Case materials on the Datejust 36
The first Rolex Datejust was made of yellow gold with a yellow gold case. Later on, you could opt for the stainless-steel case with a white gold bezel, a yellow gold bezel (which was called the Rolesor) or even the polished stainless-steel bezel on a steel case. In the past couple of years Rolex introduced the ‘Everose’ Datejust which is made of stainless-steel and rose gold.
You can opt for a fluted or smooth bezel in rose gold with a matching Oyster or Jubilee bracelet. All measuring 36mm, these models are still very popular today. Prices seem to rise, and you have to pay around €7.000 for a well-maintained vintage or pre-owned Rolex Datejust 36.
Dial colors and motifs on the Datejust 36
In 2020, Rolex produced a numerous number of dials for the Rolex Datejust 36. Nowadays you can even opt for a blue dial with motif, the green palm dial or just go with a regular color filled with diamonds. Prices from these models start at around €12.000 on Wristler, while the diamond set bezels are a bit more expensive around €15.000.
If you would like your Datejust 36 to look like a classic vintage Datejust, you might consider the Jubilee bracelet, white gold fluted bezel with a champagne-colored dial. Prices can be found around €13.000.
Different sizes for the Rolex Datejust
Being introduced as a 36mm case, Rolex also produced the Lady Datejust in 28mm, the Rolex Datejust 31mm or the biggest of them all: the Rolex Datejust II. This watch measures 41mm and was replaced by the Rolex Datejust 41 a couple of years later, with a smaller case (1mm difference).
