The Rolex Datejust 1603
When it comes to vintage Rolex watches, the Datejust is one that is around since the 1950s. With the introduction of the reference 1603, this was the first ever stainless-steel watch in the Datejust collection. The 1603 is a classic looking, 36mm case size with an engine turned bezel made of stainless-steel, instead of the white gold or yellow gold fluted bezel on the 1601, for example.
The dial on the 1603 can be found in different colors, like blue, silver, gold and champagne. These models are a bit cheaper compared to other earlier models from the Datejust collection, because of the materials used on the watch: the 1603 is fully made of stainless-steel with a steel case, bracelet and bezel.
The glass was made of plexiglass, making it easy to polish scratches on the glass. When you’re in the market for a vintage or pre-owned Rolex Datejust reference 1603, you should bring around €3.000 to the table for a vintage piece, all the way up to €5.000 for a well-maintained version including box and papers.
