Hier voor ons hebben we een Cartier Santos-model dat we nog niet eerder bij 10 over 10 hebben gehad: de Cartier Santos Vendôme 8192. In onze ogen een echt funky horloge! Laten we eerst even terugblikken op de geschiedenis van de Cartier Santos.
De Cartier Santos is afgeleid van de Cartier Santos-Dumont, ontworpen voor Alberto Santos-Dumont. Dit horloge werd oorspronkelijk op de markt gebracht dankzij een legende in de horloge-industrie: Alain-Dominique Perrin, CEO van Cartier van 1975 tot 1998. In 1978 lanceerde Cartier onder zijn leiding de goud-stalen Santos. Het horloge kreeg een geïntegreerde stalen band in plaats van de traditionele leren band. Daarnaast voegde Cartier 18K goud toe aan de kast en band om het horloge een extra vleugje luxe te geven. Het model werd in de jaren ’80 razend populair.
In 1987 werd de Santos volledig herzien, hernoemd en opnieuw gelanceerd als de Santos Galbée. De kast verloor zijn ruwe uiterlijk en kreeg meer gebogen, ronde lugs, waardoor hij comfortabeler om de pols zat dan zijn voorganger.
De Cartier Santos die we hier aanbieden is echter niet de standaard Santos, maar de variant met ronde kast, ook wel Vendôme genoemd. De Cartier Vendôme werd rond 1973 geïntroduceerd als eerbetoon aan de iconische Place Vendôme in Parijs, het historische trefpunt van de grote juweliers en horlogemakers.
Dit model onderscheidt zich door zijn ronde kast: een stijlvol alternatief voor de hoekige vormen van de bekende Santos en Tank. De twee karakteristieke lugs, waaraan de band is bevestigd, zijn meer dan een ontwerpkeuze: ze symboliseren de twee straten die uitkomen op het plein waaraan het horloge zijn naam dankt: Rue de la Paix en Rue de Castiglione.
