The Cartier Santos
The Cartier Santos is the world’s first ever pilot’s watch, developed for Brazilian pilot Mr. Santos. These watches feature a square case made of different materials, with different sizes available like the Santos 100 or the Santos Dumont. All about the quare icon from Cartier: the Santos.
Louis Cartier designed the first ever Cartier Santos back in 1904 at the request of Brazilian pilot Alberto Santos-Dumont. The square case helped set it apart from that era’s conventional round pocket watches with integrated lugs. Since the original Cartier Santos dates back from 1904, there is still a resemblance in the new Cartier Santos-Dumont. This piece has the roots of the original, but are a bit more sporty thanks to the crown guards and softer lines.
Santos-Dumont
The re-creation of the original Cartier Santos from 1904 is the modern piece called the Cartier Santos-Dumont. With the original square case, prominent bezel with 8 exposed screws it looks like the original. There are some options for this model, with a quartz-powered movement in the women’s and unisex models,
but since 2020 there is an automatic caliber in the Santos-Dumont XL. This watch is available in stainless-steel, gold, and two-tone and priced between €5.000 and €12.000. The white gold version with diamonds is the most expensive at €50.000 or more.
The Cartier Santos 100
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the Cartier Santos, the Cartier Santos 100 was released back in 2004. The Santos 100 has a much larger case and looks more masculine, measuring 42x51mm it’s suited best for larger wrists.
You can get your hand on a Santos 100 made from stainless-steel, two-tone yellow gold with steel or black titanium. The sportiest version is the titanium black model on a calfskin strap, costing between €4.500 and €6.500.
The Cartier Santos Galbée
Inspired by the timeless elegance of the original Santos timepiece, the Cartier Santos Galbée is a notable watch that pays homage to the iconic design introduced in 1904. This modern interpretation, like its predecessor, embraces the distinctive square case and features a gold or steel bezel with eight exposed screws, capturing the essence of the classic Santos. The Galbée is the smallest of the Cartier Santos sizes, and comes as a 24mm ladies size, and a 29mm unisex size.
Available in stainless steel, gold, and two-tone variations, the Cartier Santos Galbée offers a range of choices to suit different preferences. The pricing for these exquisite timepieces falls within the range of €2.500 to €5.000, depending on the materials and specifications chosen. For those seeking the epitome of luxury, the full-gold version, set with diamonds stands out as the pinnacle of Cartier their Santos Galbée, commanding a price tag of €15.000 or more. The Cartier Santos Galbée series seamlessly combines heritage and innovation, making it a distinguished choice for those with a discerning taste in horology.
Cartier Santos Demoisselle
Since Cartier has a rich history of producing smaller watches for men and women, the Cartier Santos Demoisselle was designed for women only. These feminine pieces feature a smaller case, measuring 24x18.7 or 28.25x21.65mm.
The stainless-steel Cartier Santos Demoisselle is available for around €2.000 on Wristler for a pre-owned version, while you have to pay double that money for a new unworn piece. You can also get your hands on a rose gold case filled with diamonds for around €15.000.
