The Heuer Carrera is an iconic chronograph, and the Carrera name is derived from the Carrera Panamericana, a legendary—and often deadly—road race across Mexico. The Heuer connection dates back to 1962, when Jack Heuerattended the 12 Hours of Sebring race in Florida. At the time, Jack had recently taken control of the company after buying out his uncle, who was ready to step away from the business. Jack’s invitation to Sebring came from the Sports Car Club of America as a gesture of thanks for Heuer’s support in providing stopwatches and timing equipment as the official timekeeper for the event. What we have here is an early reference 2447 "Red Tachy"—named for the distinctive red tachymeter scale around the dial. These three-register Carreras were dubbed the "Carrera 12" because they feature a register capable of counting up to 12 hours. The diamond-polished case is in excellent condition, with pump pushers and a screw-back case. The two-tone silver dial features a red tachymeter scale, three subdials with a concentric finish, pencil-style hour and minute hands, and blued chronograph hands. The watch is powered by a Heuer hand-wound movement based on the iconic Valjoux 72 caliber. We believe the winding crown was replaced during a past service.
