Nautical experience

The 23 year old Ulysse Nardin founded the factory back in 1846 in Le Locle, Switzerland. He was the second watchmaker in the family since he learned all the skills from his dad. Even though he already knew the basis, he wanted to learn more and started working with DuBois. Some years later, in 1876, Ulysse Nardin’s son took over the company and is now part of the PPR (Pinault Printemps Redoute, which also houses brands like Gucci and Bottega Veneta.

The catalog from Ulysse Nardin

When it comes to watch making, the brand started out as a nautical expert, since it was their marine chronometers that really brought them fame back in the day. That’s why the anchor-logo still reminds us to their extremely precise marine watches. With numerous designs, materials and models in the Ulysse Nardin collection, it really stands out from other luxury brands. In 2001, Ulysse Nardin released the Freak-line, causing a stir in the luxury watch market. They were the first to introduce silicon components in their watches, which is a really lightweight, hard and non-magnetic material that could revolutionize the watch making industry.

If you’re planning on getting your hands on a Ulysse Nardin watch, there’s plenty to choose from their collection, made of stunning materials such as solid gold, lots of complications and lots of different prices. The cheapest Ulysse Nardin is the Quadrato Dual Time, with a second time zone and a date function priced at around €4.000. The cheapest solid gold piece will set you back around €11.000 and is made of rose gold, which is the Classico Lady or the San Marco Classico. Spending money like it ain’t a thing? No worries, Ulysse Nardin has got you covered with their Freak Diavolo, with a white gold case, a tourbillon and a price tag of around €120.000.
