The tenth of July 1959 is a special date: the official registration of the Squale brand was there! Charles Von Büren, the founder, was already known in the luxury watch market being a diver, but also manufacturing diver’s watches for other brands. Both Charles and his wife Hélène are into watersports, especially diving, and they’ve built up their factory in Switzerland. They already knew back then: since their love for watersports, their watches should be into watersports as well.
The first ever watch from Squale
The first watch ever made within the Squale collection, was the SUB-39, which was a prototype and still in production today. This watch was released back in 1962, with a strong stainless-steel case and a date function at 3 o’clock. Just three years later, the Italian diver Enzo Maiorca set the world diving record of 67 meters, wearing the Squale Master.
Ever since the 70s, Squale was the supplier for the Italian waterpolice, making limited editions celebrating their 60th birthday and becoming the best diver’s watches around, especially in their price range.
Prices of the Squale watches
When it comes to the luxury watch market, you can expect to pay at least €1.000 for your watch, or way more, all the way up to millions. But, it’s a bit different at Squale. You can already call it your own for just over €1.000, being really affordable for a professional diver’s watch which is water-resistant up to 300 meters (30 bar). The current collection of Squale watches are affordable, high-quality and made in Switzerland, with a date function at 3 o’clock and different materials used.
When it comes to the strap: you can get your hands on a comfortable rubber strap, the elegant leather strap or the sporty stainless-steel bracelet. The most expensive Squale watch around sells for roughly €1.750. Perfect value for money!
