Junghans
Junghans started out in 1861 as a producer for clock components and movements. Since they quickly gained attention, they started to make complete timepieces and by the early 20th century, it became the larges clock manufacturer in the world. Founded in Germany by Erhard Junghans, in Schramberg, Germany, Junghans is now one of the most renowned watch brands from Germany.
Serious business
With that being said, about being the largest manufacturer in the world when it comes to clocks, Junghans produced over three million timepieces per year, back in 1903. Imagine that! Over a hundred years ago, they’ve already managed to produce that kind of numbers, which was completely new to the world. The star-shaped logo, which was introduced in 1890, became a symbol of quality and precision when it comes to timekeeping.
Some years later, in the 1960s, Junghans partnered up with Max Bill, resulting in the iconic Max Bill collection which resembles minimalistic design, clarity and functional aesthetics. This collection is still one of the most beloved models within the Junghans catalog.
Prices of Junghans watches
If you’re in the market for a new, pre-owned or vintage Junghans, you don’t need to save up your whole life to buy one: starting at around €1.000, you can get your hands on a black dial Max Bill as a simple three-hander with a date function. If you’re into complications, the Junghans Meister Chronoscope might be the right match, with a day & date function and a chronograph.
Setting you back around €2.000, these aren’t that expensive as well compared to the rest of the market. Dial colors often come in grey, black, silver, white or blue, being clean, minimalistic and easy to read. You can wear these watches on a leather strap, making it a perfect dressy watch for every-day usage.
