Meaning strong in Latin, Fortis aimed to create high-quality watches that could withstand rigorous use in various demanding environments. Founded back in 1912 by Walter Vogt in Switzerland, the brand has a long stretching history with the focus on aviation.
The Brand & Collection
In 1926, Fortis partnered up with English watchmaker John Harwood to produce the first ever mass-produced automatic wristwatch. It was known as the Harwood Automatic, with a rotor winding mechanism. In the 1930s, the brand began producing pilot’s watches with large, easy to read dials, a robust construction and reliable movements. That wasn’t enough for Fortis tough, since they focused on making watches for space agencies back in 1994, with the B-42 as the first series.
As you’ve might have guessed, the Aviatis collection focusses on the aviation heritage with large dials, chronograph functions and easy to read numerals.
