The pre-owned Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
With the Royal Oak being the most iconic sports watch ever made, Audemars Piguet is not producing that many pieces a year. And if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on a new Royal Oak at your local dealer, you probably have a good relationship with the authorized dealer since they don’t just sell their pieces to anyone who walks in with a lot of money. If you’re in the market for a Royal Oak, you should consider the pre-owned Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. You don’t have long waiting lists, but you pay a premium to get one.
History of the pre-owned Royal Oak
The OG Royal Oak was released back in 1972 when Audemars Piguet teamed up with the famous designer Gérald Genta. He designed the Royal Oak made of stainless-steel with an integrated bracelet which was unheard of in that time. A few years later, AP teamed up with another designer to create the perfect women’s only Royal Oak measuring 26, 33 or 37mm in case size.
The original Audemars Piguet Royal Oak was launched in a 39mm case, which was named the ‘Jumbo’ thanks to its larger design, compared to other brands in that time. Later on, Audemars Piguet even launched a bigger Royal Oak measuring 41mm. The Royal Oak started out in stainless-steel, but in the years after the launch Audemars Piguet also made a full (white or black) ceramic piece which will cost you close to €1.000.000.
But you can also opt for the rose gold with a leather or rubber bracelet costing around €70.000. If you’re a fan of platinum, these watches are also available for roughly €100.000 with a nice combination of stainless-steel and platinum.
There are lots of different dial colors, with the most exclusive one being a skeleton dial where you can see the movement of the Royal Oak. Some other options are the black dial, reversed panda, white or silver of even a green or gold dial on these Audemars Piguet Royal Oaks.
Pre-Owned Royal Oak Lady
When the Royal Oak Lady debuted back in 1976, it was a unique piece made of rose or yellow gold or two-tone with stainless-steel. With the integrated bracelet making the case and bracelet one piece, it’s a true classic.
These vintage or pre-owned Lady Royal Oaks are available on Wristler starting at around €7.000 up to €30.000 for a well-maintained 37mm diamond inlay Royal Oak.
Prices of the pre-owned Royal Oak
Since the watch is highly sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts, the prices of these watches tend to rise easily. Starting at around €7.000 for a Lady Royal Oak up to €1.000.000 for an Openworked Ceramic Royal Oak, there is a lot of choice, depending on the budget you’re willing to spend on your next watch.
You should consider a pre-owned Royal Oak because you can get your hands on one pretty fast, but also these watches are a solid investment if we look at the data from the past years.
