Rolex Sky-Dweller
The Rolex Sky-Dweller
The Roles Sky-Dwellers has some features making it one of the most complicated watches in the Rolex collection. With an annual calendar and a second time zone these models rapidly increase in value and are highly sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts. Even though it is one of the most expensive Rolex watches, it is still a really good investment. The Rolex Sky-Dweller is only made of the best materials, such as yellow gold, white gold or rose gold. With four different bracelets, you can always pick the best Sky-Dweller for your wrist and occasion.
The history of the Rolex Sky-Dweller
Rolex is known for their robust and precise movements in their wristwatches. Every caliber from Rolex receives a certificate from the COSC: Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute. The same goes for the Sky-Dweller movement: caliber 9001. Rolex introduced this caliber back in 2012 with additional functions. It has a 72-hour power reserve and features the Microstella nuts in the balance rim. The movement has a blue Parachrom hairspring made from a non-magnetic-zirconium-niobium alloy.
The well-known Oyster case is used on the Rolex Sky-Dweller as well, just like almost every model like the Submariner, Yacht-Master or Daytona. Because of the 9001 caliber that’s used in the Sky-Dweller, the case measures 42mm and is one of the heaviest wristwatches from Rolex at 250 grams. With the Oyster-bracelet, it features the Easylink comfort extension making it possible to lengthen the bracelet by 5mm for hot summer days. The Sky-Dweller is known for its elegant look with the fluted bezel and Roman numerals on the dial.
Materials on the Sky-Dweller
Rolex produces the Sky-Dweller in different materials, like the two-tone ‘Rolesor’ models which are made of stainless-steel and yellow gold. You could also opt for the white gold and stainless-steel model which is a bit more expensive compared to the yellow gold and stainless-steel model. If you’re in the market for a full gold model from the Rolex Sky-Dweller, you can either pick the yellow gold, white gold or rose gold called the ‘Everose’.
These gold pieces come on an Oyster-bracelet or an alligator leather strap. Rolex replaced the leather strap back in 2021 with the well-known Oysterflex bracelet, which can also be found on the Daytona. You can also go for the Sky-Dweller with a Jubilee bracelet which is made of stainless-steel.
The Ring Command Bezel
One of the features on the Sky-Dweller is the Ring Command Bezel, which can be found both on the Sky-Dweller and Yacht-Master II. After unscrewing and pulling out the crown, you turn the bezel left until it locks into place at 11 o’clock. You can now set the date by turning the crown in either direction. The month works the same way.
Rolex uses rectangular windows above the hour markers to display the month. The window corresponding to the current month is filled with a contrasting color. For example, if it’s August, the window at 8 o’clock will be colored as it’s the eighth month of the year.
