For Enthusiasts Only

Pre-owned Audemars Piguet Watch

With the Audemars Piguet collection being one of the finest luxury watches available, there is a high demand for these pieces. While there aren’t that many watches being produced or available to the wider public, you might need to look for a vintage or pre-owned Audemars Piguet. These watches are available on the free market, and you expect to pay a premium for these.

The start of Audemars Piguet

The company was established back in 1875 with now over 140 years of experience. Jules-Louis Audemars was a repasseur: he conducts the final inspection of a watch before it leaves the manufacturer. The same goes for Edward-Auguste Piguet, a fellow repasseur. They joined forces in 1881, founding Audemars Piguet & Cie. They started making complicated pocket watches and later on the most iconic wristwatches.

With a couple of iconic designs from Gérald Genta, the company made name with the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. This watch was made of stainless-steel and was priced as high as sporty solid gold watches. That was really unique back in the day.

Gérald Genta: design master

Gérald Charles Genta: a Swiss watch designer and artist and worked for numerous companies back in the day. He worked for IWC, Omega, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet. Some people call his work the ‘Fabergé’ of watches. With Genta designing the first ever luxury sports watch in the world, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak made its entrance.

It was based on traditional diving helmets and therefore featured with exposed screw heads which can be screwed from the bottom up. The unique case design is highly coveted by enthusiasts and collectors and thus prices of these pre-owned Audemars Piguet watches are rising.

Different pre-owned Audemars Piguet watches

You can get your hands on different pre-owned watches from Audemars Piguet, for example the well-known oval design Millenary collection. These oval cased watches offer you a view of the caliber making them a feast for the eyes. Some watches feature diamonds on the bezel and case and the absolute top model is the tourbillon. These watches can be found from €13.000 up to €300.000 for the Millenary Tourbillon Maserati.

Another dress watch from AP is the Jules Audemars Grand Complication. The extra-thin model is priced around €35.000 while the chronograph is priced at almost 1 million Euro.

The most popular and iconic watch from Audemars Piguet is the Royal Oak. You can get your hands on one of these on the free market starting at around €40.000 for the stainless-steel pre-owned Royal Oak. There are some different materials being used on the Royal Oak, for example titanium but also ceramic. These ceramic models will cost you well over €500.000 for a well-maintained piece.

There also is the Royal Oak Offshore, the sporty evolution of the original Royal Oak, starting from arround €20.000 for a pre-owned piece.

The Marvel Black Panther Royal Oak

Making it the most expensive Royal Oak ever, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Black Panther Tourbillion sold for over 5 million dollars at an auction. The proceeds from this auction were donated to charity for this one-off special edition.

Thankfully, not all Royal Oak Concepts are that expensive: an iced-out, full diamond Audemars Piguet Royal Oak will cost you around €250.000.

Sizes on the pre-owned Royal Oak

Audemars Piguet launched the Royal Oak decades ago and produced it for both men and women. These watches measure 37 up to 48mm in case size, with the 37 being made for women, while the 39mm was considered unisex.

The bigger case size, which measures 48mm is perfect for those who have big wrists. Prices vary between €35.000 and €350.000 for these different sizes, depending on the model, year of production and the material used on these special Royal Oaks.
