Alpina
We’re not talking about modified BMW’s (joke, we know it’s a real Alpina-brand), but about the long stretching history of the watch brand called Alpina. One thing that is for sure: if you drive an Alpina, you should wear one as well. All about the Alpina catalog and history!
The history of the brand
Stretching back to 1883, Gottlieb Hauser, a watchmaker from Switzerland, established the Swiss Watchmakers Corporation to unite the watchmakers who shared a passion for horological excellence. In 1901, the Swiss Watchmakers Corporation registered the trademark ‘Alpina’ which stood for high-quality watches.
The Alpina Union Horlogère quickly became the place to go when it comes to robust and reliable timepieces, especially for outdoor activities and sports. In the early 20th century, Alpina began to make their in-house movements, with the Alpina 4 in 1938 being a significant milestone.
The collection from Alpina
With such a long history, there’s plenty to get your hands on. Pre-owned, vintage or brand-new: it all has its charm. When it comes to modern pieces, you can opt for the Alpiner collection which pays homage to the robust sports watches from back in the day. Modern tech like automatic movements, chronographs and worldtimers can be found in this collection.
The Seastong collection was made for divers, as professional grade dive watches, unidirectional rotating bezels and luminous hands and hour-markers.
The Startimer is the perfect pilot’s watch with large, easy to read dials and anti-reflective sapphire, making them perfect for aviators and enthusiasts. You don’t even have to break the bank when opting for an Alpina watch, since you can already buy them for around €1.300 pre-owned up to €2.500 brand new, depending on the movement, year of production and materials used. You can find watches with diamonds if you’d like, but these are a bit more expensive.
