Tissot
Founded in 1853, which makes Tissot probably one of the oldest watch brands in the world, is still around with their unique collection of watches. Father Charles-Félicien Tissot and son Charles-Émile Tissot founded the company in the small town LeLocle in Switzerland. LeLocle is also known for housing Audemars Piguet.
First mass-produced pocket watches
Tissot is known for their first mass-produced pocket watch and the first ever pocket watch with two time zones. These innovations where a testament to Tissot’s forward-thinking approach. By the end of the 19th century, Tissot had established a strong presence in international markets, such as the USA and Russia.
Tissot merged with Omega back in 1930, creating the SSIH: Société Suisse pour ‘Industrie Horlogère. Nowadays this group is known for the Swatch Group, which is probably the biggest group in the watch market. Tissot would benefit from partnering up with Omega for shared technologies and resources, so Tissot produced the well-known Navigator in 1951: the first ever mass-produced automatic watch with 24 time zones.
The most popular PRX
If you don’t know the history of the brand, a lot of people will immediately react to Tissot with the PRX, which is probably one of the craziest releases Tissot has ever done. With huge potential, lots of interest and different options when it comes to dial colors, complications and movements, the PRX is probably the reason why lots of people know about the brand itself.
The PRX comes with a Quartz or automatic movement and can even be found with a gold fluted bezel. The watches are pretty expensive to be honest, some hate them, some love them.
Prices of Tissot watches
When it comes to pricing, Tissot isn’t that expensive. A bit crazy to read if you scroll up a bit about the PRX, but the rest of the collection isn’t that expensive compared to others in the market. The Heritage collection, the Seastar and the T-Wave for example, are all priced around €1.000 to €1.400, depending on the state and the year of production.
These watches carry more value compared to the hyped PRX in our opinion, since that’s just a simple three-hander. The PRX Chronograph is even more expensive, but it’s a but too bulky if you ask me.
Vintage Tissot
When it comes to the heritage of the brand, some vintage models became really popular, such as the vintage Tissot Navigator with a Lemania movement. These watches are extremely cool, hard to find in a great condition and will set you back some serious cash: €7.500 at least if you want to get your hands on a well-maintained piece.
If you don’t want to spend that much on a vintage Tissot, you can opt for the T12 Visodate for example, which is also really cool. Priced around €1.200, this is a bit more affordable compared to the Navigator.
