Breguet watches
Breguet is probably one of the most important brands out there in the luxury watch market, with lots of inventions, milestones and a large history which stretches back to 1747. The founder, Abraham-Louis Breguet, left his home in Switzerland for a watchmaking apprenticeship in Paris. From that moment on, the history and the brand were born with lots of milestones for Breguet and the luxury watch market.
The history of Breguet
To get started with one of the inventions from Breguet, he designed completely new hands, called the Breguet Hands which were made of gold or blued steel, making it easier to read the dials. Back in the day, the hands were heavily decorated, making it harder to read the time.
In 1780, Breguet was the first ever to create a watch which would wind itself, without the aid of a key or external energy. Furthermore, Breguet also invented the first ever wristwatch, a tourbillon and a chronograph. All of this happened before the year 1840.

A vintage Breguet can sell for roughly €6.000 to €10.000, while the newer models such as the Marine sells for around €20.000 or more, depending on the dial and bezel since you can opt for diamonds as well. The Breguet Classique Hora Mundi bearing reference 5717 is made of solid yellow gold, comes with a nice leather strap and will set you back roughly €72.000 on the grey market.
