You’ve Got the Rolex, the AP, the Patek: What’s Next?

The beauty of working in watches is the fact that you get to see loads of different watches. We’ve seen over 150.000 different watches in our database so far, and thus you get to wonder what’s next. We also get asked a lot: I’ve already gotten some Rolex watches, AP, Patek and so on. What should I get next? It’s a hard question, but we managed to pick some of our favorites on our platform (for different budgets) and put together a list for you to decide.

You Never Have It All - The Hunt Never Ends

First of all, it’s kind of the true story when it comes to collecting watches. You never have it all. Of course, you might be thrilled by the way your collection looks right now, but you’re always on the hunt, finding new watches, finding new excuses to buy that next treasure. I think we all have the same problem here, myself included. I read a lot on Horlogeforum, and the tendency there is the same: we think we’ve found peace within collecting watches, but suddenly there is this thing popping up in your brain, heart or stomach and the next thing you know, you’re hunting down a new treasure. What’s wrong with us, watch collectors?

Choosing Your Next Watch Beyond the Icons

So, you’ve decided that you need a new watch in your collection. To satisfy yourself for the time being. But, you’ve already got some nice pieces including AP, Patek, Omega and Rolex. What should you get next? Are you looking to upgrade one of your current pieces, or looking for some extra sauce? There are so many hidden gems, so we took some time to dive into our available watches, all pre-owned or vintage, to (hopefully) inspire you. Let us know if that works out for you.

Our favorite watches under €15.000

Collecting watches is an expensive hobby, so we gave ourselves a budget. To start, our budget is €15.000 and we might be able to find one or two watches within this budget. The other reason we’ve picked this budget: you guys tend to spend this amount on average on our platform. So, let’s help you out with that last little kick you need to get yourself that new treasure. Sorry, and you’re welcome.

IWC GST Moonphase

The first thing that pops up is a complicated watches. But, for under €15.000. So, we’ve picked this. A perpetual calendar IWC GST with a Moon Phase. You probably don’t have something like that in your collection, and it’s a beauty. It’s from 2005, so it’s a pre-loved watch and available for €8.750. It measures 43mm, a steel case and bracelet and I think it’s lovely. You’ll just have to convince yourself now.

Hublot

You probably don’t have this in your collection either. Some say there’s a reason for it, but since I’ve gotten my hands on my own Hublot, I kind of fell for it. Sorry. This is a 42mm full titanium watch, so it’s ultra light, you can take it anywhere you’d like and it’s an automatic. I think this is the configuration that looks best on Hublot watches. To admit: I’m no fan of these crazy colored and looking Hublot watches either, but this is something I’d consider. And it will set you back €5.090. Pretty affordable, right?

Tudor

Another option within the budget, is a Tudor. You really don’t need another diver, especially no Submariner from Rolex. But, this hits different. A small-rose Tudor Submariner, smiley, Mercedes-hand, faded bezel and a damaged case. Yes. This really is the diver you need (probably next to a triple-6 SD). Available for under €10.000, these watches are getting more popular every day.

Increase the budget: €50.000 to spend

We’ve been good to ourselves. And we get to spend €50.000 on a watch, or on multiple watches. What would the pick be? There’s so much to choose from, that this quest is getting uncomfortable. Thankfully we’re not in the position that we really have to spend these kind of amounts on watches, so let’s keep dreaming. Hit it!

Early 2000s Patek Philippe Aquanaut

You might already own a Patek. Congrats! But do you already own one of the sexiest Patek Philippe’s out there? Probably not. An early 2000s Aquanaut just hits different with its tritium dial, don’t you agree? This pre-loved Aquanaut in 39mm with the steel case is the perfectly balanced Aquanaut in my opinion. And it’s a full-set, including box, papers and even an extra strap if you’d like. It will set you back €47.500, so you’re spending almost all of your budget, but you’re getting a great watch. And it might even be a nice investment piece as well.

Diamond Day-Date

A Day-Date is always a good idea. And if you’re going for it, go all-out. You can opt for a nice stone dial, yes. But you can also opt for diamonds. And that’s where it gets interesting: a full factory diamond set Day-Date 36, black dial and oh she’s a bit wrong. And that’s exactly the point of buying this one: you know it’s not the right one and thus it’s the right one. Do you get it?

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms

Alright, time for the last pick of this Insight article, otherwise I’d be drooling for too long. And thus, this Blancpain Fifty Fathoms No Rad is the perfect get away. You really don’t need it, but once you take a closer look at the sharp case, the perfectly balanced patina, you decided to pull the trigger. Oh boy!

The search has already began

What’s your take on these special items? All hand-picked and curated by us. And there’s so much more to drool on, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Go and treat yourself, you deserve it.
