Square and Rectangular Luxury Watches

Watches come in lots of different shapes and sizes. Not only do they come in a round shape, but also in a square and rectangular shape. There are a lot of squarish designs that really have made their impact in the world of watches we see nowadays. Some are more obvious than others. Let’s take a quick look at some square and rectangular shaped watches and see what they have to offer!

Cartier Tank

Let’s start with an obvious one. Even though the squarish watches from Cartier started with the Cartier Santos, the Cartier Tank is the watch that is really graved into people their minds, when they think of a squarish or rectangular shaped watch. It has a very elegant design and is seen in different variations. The Cartier Tank was first introduced in 1917. The shape of the watch is said to be inspired by the birds-eye view of the Renault tanks that were seen in the First World War. Prices of the Cartier Tank can vary a lot, starting at roughly €1.500 for the Tank Vermeil up to €20.000 for a solid gold Tank Francaise or Americaine.

Jaeger Le-Coultre Reverso

Jaeger-LeCoultre has a long history in the watchmaking industry. They are known for their complicated and extremely well produced movement, but they also have some watches that sold very well, when they hit the shops. Probably the most iconic piece in their catalogue is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso, and al its derivatives. It is a perfect example of the abilities Jaeger-LeCoultre has, related to watchmaking. Complicated movements with superb finishing and of course a beautiful history. The Reverso was produced for Polo players. The front of the watch can be reversed, so that the crystal of the watch won’t be harmed while playing this sport, and the impacts the watch may take, is only on the backside of the case. You can find the JLC Reverso on the market for a price of anything upwards of €2.500 in steel, to close to €5.000 for precious metal cases.

Rolex Cellini Prince

The Rolex catalogue has housed a lot of well-known watches, but also some fewer known watches. The Rolex Cellini Prince is a member of the Cellini family that is sometimes overlooked, compared to the more well-known brother the Cellini King Midas. The Cellini Prince is a rectangular shaped watch from the Rolex catalogue. Very noticeable is the sub-seconds dial at the 6 o’clock position. It is a very elegant watch which is mostly seen in white or yellow gold with a leather strap. Unfortunately, the Cellini Prince is very rare, and will cost you upwards of €10.000.

TAG Heuer Monaco

The watches mentioned before all carried a hint of subtility and elegance. TAG Heuer has a different view on what a square or rectangular shaped watch should be characterized by. The TAG Heuer Monaco is a sportsy and sturdy chronograph watch, with a chaotic dial, often complimented with some colours, based on the racing history of the watch. For someone that is looking for a square shaped watch, with a more subtle look, there are some variations of the Monaco with a bit more of a clean design. The Monaco wears pretty big. The lady size starts at 36mm and ends at a 44mm diameter. Prices of these may vary, starting at less than €2.000 for a Monaco Lady, and close to €10.000 for some new or vintage more collectible pieces.

Patek Philippe Gondolo

If you want to spend a bit more cash, the Patek Philippe Gondolo might be the watch for you! The Gondolo is an art-deco design watch of the Patek Philippe catalogue, some even funkier than the other, and houses beautiful in-house Patek Philippe movements, which are beautifully made. The quality of Patek Philippe watches comes close to perfection, and this is no exception. The cases and dials are beautifully finished. This quality and class does come with a hefty price tag. If you are looking for a desirable piece, from a trusted seller, the prices vary between €20.000 and €40.000!
