The Fascinating History of Luxury Dive Watches
It would probably not surprise you, but Rolex has played a big role in the history of dive watches. Back in 1926 Rolex introduced the Oystercase, which is still used today. The Oystercase which was inspired by you guessed it, the Oyster, was a watchcase produced by Rolex that revolutionized the industry. This watchcase was the first watertight sealed watch case because of the screw on caseback and crown, and the robust metals it was produced with. In the 1930s, the demand for these types of watches kept rising and brands like Omega and Blancpain soon followed with the production of watches, specifically designed for underwater use.
