The latest Omega Speedy: Bicolor

Yes, we know it’s Friday and has nothing to do with #Speedytuesday, but still, we wanted to give you a heads-up about the latest Speedy release, which looks familiar. But also brand-new. And that’s really something that got us wondering if this is a good addition to the Omega Speedmaster-family. So, without further a due: the new Bicolor Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch from Omega.

Facts

In the past, there were just two options; either you’d get a full steel Speedmaster with the latest movement, or a full Sedna gold one. And now, there’s the possibility to get your hands on a two-tone steel and gold version, if the others are too boring (or too expensive). A few months ago, Omega added the white dial to the Speedmaster and that one really was a success: lots of enthusiasts are still waiting for these to be delivered but overall the market really was waiting for a steel Speedy with a white dial.

Previous two-tone Speedy’s

From 1983 onward, there were some Speedmaster in steel and gold, which can even be found on the Speedmaster Automatic in 39mm. The latest two-tone version of the Speedmaster was the Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition that came out in 2018. Now, there’s the solution. Finally. Don’t know if you’ve been waiting for it, but at least its possible.

Moonshine versus Sedna

Since the latest release of the 2024 two-tone Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, you get to choose between Moonshine Gold and Sedna Gold. In other words: yellow gold or rosé gold. Did you know that you can even opt for a full white gold Speedmaster? I mean, full full white gold. MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) is around €55.000, so it’s a bit crazy. But, back to the two-tone pieces in Moonshine or Sedna. The Moonshine (yellow gold) comes with a silver-ish dial, Moonshine gold sub-dials and matching hands and hour-markers. The same goes for the pushers, crown and inscription on the tachymetre-bezel. The Sedna gold (rosé) comes with a pink dial, black sub-dials and the same Sedna gold on pushers, crown etcetera. The bracelet is two-tone as well, and with the open caseback on the Speedmaster duo, it’s a stunning piece to look at.

Pricing on the latest Speedmaster editions

Well, this is the part where the fun stops in our opinion. We all know that the regular steel Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is priced around €7000 to €8.000 (at Omega, it’s way cheaper on Wristler). The two-tone Moonshine Gold or Sedna Gold Speedmasters are priced at just over €18.000. And that’s some serious cash if you ask us. Of course, the two-tone Daytona sells for roughly €21.000, but still: why would you spend so much on a Gold and Steel chronograph? I’d rather have the steel Speedy (and Daytona) instead of the two-tone pieces. But, that’s up to you to decide of course. Expect these pieces to land on the grey market within weeks, and they’ll start selling for a bit above retail, but will soon be available well under retail (around 10 to 20% discount on retail).
