Discontinued watches from Rolex in 2023

With the new line-up in watches from Rolex in 2023, there are some watches we have to say goodbye to. There are always some speculations that watches will return as the demand is still growing, but these watches are officially discontinued in 2023 when it comes to the Swiss manufacturer Rolex. These watches are now part of the iconic history of the watch brand, elevating their status as highly coveted collectibles.

The Rolex Milgauss

Bearing reference 116400GV, the Rolex Milgauss with a black dial and blue dial with GV (Glace Verte) is now a discontinued model within the Rolex catalog. And that means you can only get your hands on one on the grey market being new in stickers or pre-owned. The 116400GV features a 40mm Oyster-case and the three-piece-link bracelet made of stainless-steel and was one of the longest running reference numbers in the modern era, starting in 2007 and being discontinued in 2023. When you’re in the market for a Rolex Milgauss, expect to pay a little extra nowadays since these models are highly coveted amongst enthusiasts.

Rolex Cellini Moonphase

Rolex introduced their new dress-watch at the Watches & Wonders in Geneva in 2023, so that means we have to let go of the 50535 Rolex Cellini Moonphase. This dress-watch is made of solid 18-karat gold and features a white/silver dial and the Moonphase-complication. When you want to purchase a Cellini Moonphase, expect to pay around €35.000 for a brand-new, discontinued 50535 Rolex Cellini Moonphase.

Rolex Datejust 41

No worries, we won’t say goodbye to the complete line-up from the Datejust 41 collection, but there are some discontinued models now in 2023. The one we won’t see again is the MOP (mother of pearl)/Tahitian dial, which is some sort of pearl-accent diamond dial. This dial is only discontinued on the 41mm Datejust in stainless-steel, Rolesor two-tone yellow gold and steel or the ‘Everose’ two-tone rose gold and steel piece. Prices are rising, and you have to pay at least €15.000 for a pre-owned Discontinued model of the Datejust 41.

Rolex Daytona

The new 2023 Daytona is slightly different with its design compared to the ‘old’ Daytona. With some changes, like the sapphire caseback on the new Daytona, there are some reference numbers now discontinued in 2023, such as the Meteorite dial Rolex Daytona. These models come in yellow gold, white gold or rose gold on the Oyster-bracelet or the Oysterflex-bracelet, which wears extremely comfortable with the Daytona. Prices are rising, so make sure to bring some extra money to the table.

Another Rolex Daytona got discontinued in 2023, which is the ‘John Mayer’ yellow gold Daytona with the money-green dial, which is one of the most unique and expensive Daytona’s out there. This piece bears reference number 116508 and now sells for over €100.000 in a pre-owned or brand-new state.

The 116509 Daytona is the white gold and bright blue dial watch in the Daytona catalog, which is now discontinued as well. These pieces come with a contrasting sub-dial and ‘Daytona’ written out in red. This 116509 is not that coveted yet, but expect to pay a large premium when you get your hands on one.
