Breitling Avenger

The Breitling Avenger collection is a unique piece, since it was made for both pilots and divers, closing the gap between the ocean and the sky. You can get your hands on a chronograph, GMT or the Avenger with water-resistance up to 3.000 meters. With different case-sizes the Breitling Avenger measures 43 to 50mm and the thickness of the case can measure 17.5mm. 

If you’re a fan of the Chronomat or Colt, you can guess that the Avenger features the four bezel rider tabs as well. Rider tabs make rotating the unidirectional bezel a breeze. They also protect the domed sapphire crystal against impacts making it a steady and functional tool watch.

Even though the design is similar from the regular or normal Avenger, the Super Avenger is a massive wristwatch measuring 48mm. You can find the Super Avenger with the same bracelets as the regular Breitling, but in slightly bigger sizes. 

The same goes for the caliber, which is the B13 automatic caliber. You can call this bigger wristwatch your own for roughly €5.000 on Wristler. 

An absolute stunner, introduced back in 2003. A 44mm case size made of titanium, the Breitling Avenger Seawolf can survive depths up to 3.000 meters. Just like other professional diving watches, it features a helium escape valve on the side of the case to equalize the pressure inside the watch. When you dive deep, helium molecules from the air used in diving find their way into the case. This pressure needs to be released, thanks to the helium escape valve on this Breitling Avenger Seawolf.

The newer Breitling Avenger II Seawolf is made of stainless-steel, with an impressive case thickness of 18.4mm. You can get your hands on a black, grey or yellow dial Avenger Seawolf. Prices of these watches start at around €3.000 on Wristler for a well-maintained version. If you’re in the market for the special Night Mission which is made of titanium, you need to bring at least €4.500 with you.

In 2017 Breitling released the biggest Avenger: The Hurricane. It is made of a new material called Breitlight. It is 5.8 times lighter than steel and weighs 3.3 times less than titanium. The thing is: it is harder than stainless-steel and titanium. You can get a black or yellow dial on this Avenger Hurricane with stenciled white indices that glow in the dark. 

The Breitling Avenger Hurricane is available in two sizes, measuring 45 or 50mm. These watches are best fitted for the bigger wrists. Regarding money, you need to spend around €6.400 for the 45mm Avenger Hurricane or €5.400 for the bigger 50mm Breitling watch. The bigger, the cheaper. 

If you’re in the market for a new, vintage or pre-owned Breitling Avenger, you can get your hands on a beautiful M1 E73360 Chronograph, starting at roughly €2.500 which measures 44mm and is water resistant to 1.000 meters. If you prefer your watch to be a bit smaller and with the B17 or B32 automatic caliber, you need to bring €3.500 to the table to get your hands on an Avenger Automatic, with a 43mm case size. 

Maybe the time isn’t on your side when reading from your current wristwatch, you might need to take closer look at the Avenger Hurricane. The reference XB0170E41I1W1 will cost you close to €6.000 and is water-resistant up to 100 meters. It features the B01 caliber and measures 50mm, making it the perfect watch for the bigger wrists. Or the ones that don’t want to wear glasses, probably.
