Breitling's Entry level watch

The Breitling Colt

With numerous models, Breitling is a high-end watchmaker with different designs, features and prices. The Breitling Colt was the first entry-level watch for watch lovers. These models feature the COSC certified movements, but also feature the high-precision Quartz-movement.

For Military purposes

The history of the Breitling Colt

The Breitling Colt has a functional design with a stainless-steel case which can handle water up to 20 bar (200 meters). Breitling originally designed the watch for military purposes, with the set of four rider tabs (first seen on the Chronomat back in 1984). The Breitling Colt is available for both women and men, because the case size varies from 33 up to 45mm.

All of the Breitling Colt models feature a screw-down case back and sapphire crystal to protect the dial. Some Colt models feature the ETA Quartz-movement, but some other models feature the COSC certified automatic calibers.

The Quartz Colt

Breitling released numerous models within the Colt collection, with ETA Quartz-movements. These models with the Quartz movement measure 33mm up to 44mm. The design is similar to the automatic COSC certified movements. The produced models between 2011 and 2014 are a bit different because the rider tabs are missing from every Colt from that era.

In the early days of the Breitling Colt, they were featured with the so-called SuperQuartz: this movement was ten times more precise compared to the regular Quartz-movement.

The watch also comes with a power reserve indicator showing you how much of the battery life still remains. These SuperQuartz-movements were tested by the COSC since 2000, making it a special Quartz-movement because its precision. Breitling’s SuperQuartz only deviate by 15 seconds a year, while regular Quartz-movements deviate by this in a month.

Automatic Breitling Colt

You can opt for a Quartz-powered Breitling Colt, but you can also pick the automatic Colt. These models measure 41 and 44mm and the dial is available in blue, black, silver and anthracite. Each three-hand Breitling Colt Automatic features bar indices filled with SuperLuminova, enabling the wearer to tell the time in the dark.

These Breitling Colt watches are also water-resistant up to 200 meters (20 bar). These automatic Breitling Colt watches are available for around €4.000.

Chronograph or GMT

Breitling Colt with extra functions

There are some other functions available on the Breitling Colt, like the chronograph or the GMT. With the Breitling Colt Chronograph you can time up to 12 hours with the Breitling 13 caliber. Older models of this Chronograph Colt measure 41mm, while the newer models measure 44mm with a blue, black or silver dial. These watches cost you around €2.000 for the older model and €4.000 for the newer, 44mm Breitling Colt Chronograph.

The Breitling Colt is also available with the GMT-function. Produced from 2005 to 2011, you could display the time in an additional time zone using the central red hand and a 24-hour scale in the Colt. You can recognize this watch with the Arabic numerals, instead of the bar indices. You can get your hands on a GMT Breitling Colt for around €2.200 for a well-maintained piece on Wristler.

Prices of the Breitling Colt

When you’re in the market for a vintage or pre-owned Breitling Colt, you don’t need that much money to spend on your new watch. The Breitling Colt Ocean A64350 starts at around €1.500 for a nice piece on Wristler, measuring 38mm. The biggest Breitling Colt, the Skyracer, measures 45mm and is available for you for under €2.000.

If you’re a lover of automatic calibers in your Breitling Colt, you can opt for both the Automatic 44 or the Automatic Chronograph (both measuring 44mm) and these watches cost between €3.000 and €4.500 making it the most expensive Breitling Colt out there. Keep in mind that prices will rise because Breitling also produces less watches compared to other years.
