Description
A few years after reestablishing the Breitling brand, Ernest Schneider reintroduced the spirit of the original Navitimer with the Old Navitimer ref. 81600. Powered by a hand-wound movement based on the Lemania cal. 1873, this model pays homage to the classic design while incorporating some modern updates. The case size is slightly larger( 41.5 mm ) than previous "classic case" versions, but the tapered lug design and the iconic 3/6/9 subdial layout are very much preserved. The caseback is a traditional "snap-on" style. The ref. 81600, often called the "Serge Gainsbourg" ( a French iconic singer / actor /popstar ) by collectors, features hour and minute counters with running seconds at 9, staying true to the layout of the early Navitimers. Notably, there is no date display, keeping the focus on the chronograph functions. Red accents appear on both the dial and the slide rule, and the slide rule itself has been updated to a "sloped" design, echoing the Big Case models. This ref. 81600 also marks the debut of the "Breitling Wings & Anchor" logo on the dial, adding a modern touch to an already iconic watch.The dial features lovely yellow toned tritium lume with we think gives this watch some”Extra extra “. We fitted this fine Chrono with a nice rugged Bulangandsons strap of which we think that it is a great match ! Iconic chronos are never out of style and this Breitling is a great example.
