Shortage on the vintage market

Expensive watches are in demand. Will we all get richer then? Basically it's starting to look like that. Watches, used or new, are increasingly in demand and growing demand is exploding. As a result, the supply is under pressure and prices naturally continue to rise. The watch market is an interesting one. And above all a lot of fun. Due to the different brands, there is almost something for everyone. Depending on your wallet, of course. Even on a Budget, there is plenty to choose from. You can (sometimes) buy a new watch if you're lucky. Just ask for a Rolex Daytona at any AD. By default you hear that there is no stock, or you have to be patient for a long time. You might be able to get your hands on one.

Pre-owned watches

What does that do to the prices of second-hand watches? Precisely. Prices start to rise like crazy. Just a side-note: second-hand watches doesn't sound that sexy. And that is why these watches are also called pre-owned. These are still neat watches, often well-maintained and with the original box and papers. But they have already been worn. Hence pre-owned.

Growth in demand

In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in beautiful timepieces. Also from the younger target groups between 20 and 30 years. Previously, the more expensive watches were bought by the older generations, but that has now changed. Which is of course good news: more enthusiasts is always better. Where does that interest come from? Partly through social media. You can discover a beautiful watch on almost every profile. Either in a story on Instagram, or via a story on Snapchat. Watches belong to a certain status and young people are generally more sensitive to this. Queues and impatience: one of the things that don't go well together.

The Waiting List

Now when you walk into a random dealer of watches, and ask for a certain watch, you are often told that you have to be patient. And in exceptional cases you will be placed on a waiting list. The waiting times can be up to 5 years. And that is of course quite large, if you were planning to purchase a watch today.
