2025 Patek Philippe release: from desk clocks to the Cubitus

Yes, Patek Philippe just announced a desk clock. We don’t really know how we feel about it just yet, but the same goes for the smaller Cubitus. Last year, everyone thought it was an April’s fool joke, when Patek introduced the 45mm Cubitus. But now, you can opt for the 40mm. And still nobody wants it.

Summary of the Patek Philippe release:

  • Desk Clock: Patek Philippe surprises with the 27000M-001 desk clock featuring a 31-day power reserve and intricate design—we admit, it’s unexpected but kind of awesome.
  • Cubitus 40mm: The return of the Cubitus in a smaller 40mm format doesn’t help its appeal—we still don’t see the point, and neither does the market.
  • Quadruple Complication Watch: The new 5308G-001 quadruple complication watch in white gold is technically impressive—but with a price north of €1 million, it feels more like a flex than a functional timepiece.
  • Fifteen New Releases: While 15 new models were released, most are unobtainable and feel more like collector bait than meaningful horological innovations for everyday watch lovers.

Disappointment

Let’s start with the true disappointment from the Swiss manufacturer Patek Philippe, which is the Cubitus. The watch was released last year in 45mm, and nobody wanted one. And now, there’s a 40mm version that nobody seems to like. Would you opt for the 40mm Cubitus now it’s released and probably wears a bit better? Retail price on the website are ‘On request’. But expect to pay at least €140.000 on the grey market if you really think this is a good idea.

Sitting at your desk

Yes, working hard, so you need some fancy stuff on your desk. And that’s where Patek Philippe comes in, with the 27000M-001: a 31-day power reserve, manually wound, perpetual and weekly calendar desk clock. And to be honest? It’s pretty cool. The finish is amazing, the dial is a bit busy with all the numerals, but hey, it’s a complicated piece. It only measures 135mm by 86mm, and is endowed with American walnut veneer with a bonnet that opens from the right. The price? Well, in 2021 the predecessor clock was sold for 9.5 million Swiss francs. So, this will be crazy expensive as well.

Quadruple complication

Patek Philippe is flexing again, with one of the latest complicated watches introduced. The 5308G-001 comes in white gold, 42mm, a bright blue dial and has a price tag over 1 million. Yes, you read that right. In 2023, there was a limited edition platinum version of this complicated watch, but now, there’s a watch that’s available to the public. With a budget over 1 million to spend on a wristwatch.

15 new releases

Patek Philippe has released 15 brand-new watches or variations to their catalog. But to be honest, most of these watches aren’t available to the ‘regular’ public due to demand, but also due to the crazy list prices just like the pieces above. Yes, there’s a more complicated Calatrava, and a round Twenty~4, and some other watches. But is it really worth mentioning? Don’t think so.

Overall, Patek Philippe’s 2025 lineup feels more like a show of strength than a genuine effort to connect with broader enthusiasts. The Cubitus remains an awkward fit, despite the size update. The desk clock, ironically, steals the spotlight with its uniqueness and craftsmanship. The ultra-complicated 5308G-001 and the rest of the high-priced new releases cater to an elite circle—leaving most collectors more bewildered than excited.
