Iconic statement

Pre-owned Rolex Air-King

An iconic statement: the (pre-owned) Rolex Air-King is a stunner. And it’s one of the most affordable watches from the Rolex collection. The Air-King is made of stainless steel and is available in different measurements and reference numbers. In the earlier days the Rolex Air-King was a 34mm stainless steel watch, with an engine turned bezel and different color schemes available for the dial, like soft pink, green, blue or red. And there are some special vintage models available as well: the Double Red reference 5500 have two red inscriptions reading ‘Air-King’ and ‘Super Precision’.

Pilot's watch

The history of the Rolex Air-King

The Rolex Air-King was one of the watches created after the war for pilots, hence the name Air-King. Without any other options, it was a truly basic model with exact precision. After the war, Rolex began to make the watches for the public. These reference numbers are the 14000, 14000M (modified) and the 14010 or 14010M. One of the coolest versions is the Mickey Mouse or Pan Am Air-King 5500: a perfect watch for watchcollectors.

There’s another special Rolex Air-King, popular amongst collectors: the Rolex Air-King Date. This specific model is only 1mm bigger compared to the regular Air-King, so it measures 35mm. It’s still made of stainless steel but so different with the date on its dial.

In 2016 Rolex designed the all-new Air-King. This specific model measured 40mm and is the biggest Air-King yet. This Air-King reference 116900 is available for under €10.000 on the free market and usually comes as a full set in good shape. This new design really stands out from the other models in Rolex’s collection. The numerals from 5 to 55 are Arabic and it’s got a green minute hand. Just like the other modern Rolex watches, this Air-King has the Easylink comfort extension on the Oyster bracelet to widen the bracelet with 5mm. Perfect for the warmer days in the summer.

Price ranges of the pre-owned Air-King

The pre-owned Rolex Air-King is available in different price ranges and different models and measurements. And because its relatively affordable, we think the pre-owned Rolex Air-King is the perfect watch to wear on a daily basis.

Prices vary from €3500 to €10.000 for a starters Rolex Air-King in vintage condition to a new, full set unworn 2022 model. Especially those vintage pre-owned pieces are available in different dial colors with a beautiful story. That’s why we like those vintage pre-owned Air-Kings at Wristler.

Why you should consider a pre-owned Rolex Air King

For starters, we think you should consider the pre-owned Rolex Air-King because of its ability to wear every day. For almost every occasion, this watch is good. Its sporty, elegant, functional and classic. Even the new model (ref 116900) is a classic already. Furthermore, these pre-owned Rolex Air-King watches are affordable: compared to the Oyster Perpetual in 34mm or even 39mm, the Rolex Air-King is still the king in pricing.

Starting from €3500 you can add a pre-owned Rolex Air-King to your collection. The Oyster Perpetual 34mm is around €4500 and a really nice pre-owned Datejust is probably around €7500. What would you rather buy?

Future proof

Potential investment Air-King

We don’t know what the future holds for all of us, but the thing we do know is simple: because the pre-owned Rolex Air-King is affordable, the potential to appreciate is big. Especially those pre-owned or vintage Rolex Air-King models: starting from around €3500 to €6500 you can expect the watch to appreciate around €10.000 in the future.

Since the reference 116900 is already discontinued, prices from these watches starting to rise as well. Sometimes even €10.000+ for the full set, unworn condition on the free market at Wristler.
