Full Ceramic Omega Speedmaster
The Speedmaster family reimagines the sports chronograph by trading steel for ceramic by using zirconium dioxide (ZrO2). Omega machines the case and bezel from full ceramic, delivering deep color, high scratch resistance, and a cool, even wrist feel. It reads modern rather than archival, pushing the familiar Moonwatch silhouette upmarket with refined surfaces and a stealth-luxe attitude. Sapphire crystals front and back, ceramic tachymeter scales, and daily-friendly ergonomics support real-world wear without losing Moonwatch DNA.
Material, dial, and wearability
Across Dark Side, Grey Side, White Side, and Blue Side of the Moon, ceramic sets the mood: ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ is taut and technical; ‘Grey Side of the Moon’ warmer and softer; ‘White Side of the Moon’ crisp and extroverted; Blue Moonphase nightlife-smooth. Many dials are signed ZrO2, with applied indices and Super-LumiNova for legibility. Character pieces range from Black Black, with tone-on-tone details, to GSOTM Meteorite with a space-rock dial and Sedna Gold accents. Comfortable leather, rubber, or NATO straps keep things versatile for daily rotation.
Variants, movements, and pricing
- Dark Side of the Moon and siblings, automatic chronographs; early Caliber 9300, later Master Chronometer Moonphase with Caliber 9904.
- Grey Side of the Moon, including meteorite dials; select versions accented with Sedna Gold.
- White Side of the Moon, white ceramic case and dial for a bright, sport-luxe read.
- Blue Side of the Moon Moonphase, METAS-certified, anti-magnetic architecture.
- Apollo 8, black ceramic with a skeletonized, lunar-textured aesthetic.
Positioning sits above mainstream steel and below precious metal. Typical new pricing runs around €11.000–€16.500 depending on complication and execution, with moonphase or meteorite pieces higher. Pre-owned commonly spans about €7.500–€14.500, subject to reference, condition, and completeness. For Speedmaster history rendered in contemporary materials science, this is the insider’s lane.
