Baume & Mercier, established in 1830, has a long history in watchmaking, marked by distinct eras of craftsmanship and style. Following its definitive acquisition by Piaget in 1965, Baume & Mercier became the entry-level luxury brand within the Piaget family. A brand known for its high-end watchmaking, Piaget could now extended its legacy of luxury through Baume & Mercier, offering similar exceptional craftsmanship but with a different approach when it came to the use of movements.
This particular Baume & Mercier, crafted in 18k yellow gold, was sold to a tasteful customer on November 24, 1975, by the Piaget dealership on Rue du Rhône in Geneva, Switzerland. The buyer opted for a classic 33mm round case, but with a distinctive twist—a dial made from Tiger's Eye, a gemstone prized for its golden to reddish-brown hues and silky luster. In this example, the dial has a notably darker tone, adding a unique depth to the watch's appearance.
The watch, along with its box and papers, has been remarkably well-preserved. While the dial and hands exhibit some signs of oxidation, the case and buckle remain in excellent condition, with all case details still sharply defined. The crown has been replaced at some point during its lifetime.
