Er is iets bijzonders aan het verzamelen van vintage Rolex-horloges. Het zijn vaak de details die het ene exemplaar onderscheiden van het andere, van unieke kastmaterialen en vormen tot de verfijnde esthetiek van de wijzerplaat. Dat zijn de kenmerken die direct in het oog springen. Zo valt ook direct op dat deze (neo)vintage Rolex Datejust 16233 niet is voorzien van een standaard wijzerplaat. Dit is zonder twijfel een van de mooiste wijzerplaten die we hebben gehad voor een Datejust 16233 bij 10 over 10!
De Mother of Pearl-wijzerplaat (ook wel parelmoer genoemd) is gemaakt van een natuurlijk materiaal dat afkomstig is van de binnenkant van schelpen, met name oesters en andere weekdieren. De schittering is indrukwekkend: met subtiele kleurveranderingen, afhankelijk van hoe het licht erop valt. Eigenlijk is de plaat nauwelijks vast te leggen op foto; je moet hem echt in het echt zien! Als kers op de taart is de MOP-wijzerplaat omlijst met diamanten indexen.
Met de introductie van de Datejust werd ook de iconische vijfdelige Jubilee-band gelanceerd. Aanvankelijk alleen in massief goud, later ook in bicolor. Kopers konden destijds kiezen tussen een Jubilee- of een Oyster-band, al komt die laatste zelden voor bij de Datejust 16233. Dit exemplaar laat perfect zien hoe een elegante vintage Datejust hoort te zijn: de combinatie van een stalen kast, een 18K geelgouden bezel, de unieke MOP-wijzerplaat en de goud-stalen Jubilee-band zorgen voor een stijlvolle en iconische uitstraling.
Deze prachtige (neo)vintage Rolex Datejust 16233 MOP (Mother of Pearl) dateert uit 2001, is verkocht in 2002 en verkeert in schitterende staat. De 36 mm stalen kast, samen met de 18K geelgouden fluted bezel, is nog mooi scherp. De Jubilee-band vertoont een acceptabele rek, maar verkeert nog zeker in goede staat.
