The Rolex Submariner ref. 5513 needs little introduction. A true icon of vintage dive-watch design, the 5513 was produced for decades and became the canvas for some of the most desirable Submariner dials ever made. Among collectors, the later Maxi dials are especially loved for their bold, oversized hour plots and unmistakable presence. The case of this example is in superb condition — just look at those lugs! They have retained their lovely original shape and give the watch a fantastic presence on the wrist. Fitted with the highly sought-after Maxi Mk5 dial, this Sub has those wonderfully strong, generously sized plots that make the later Maxi dials so appealing. The original tritium has aged to a warm, creamy tone, adding just the right amount of vintage warmth without becoming too dark. The originally deep-black bezel insert has naturally faded to a soft mid-grey, creating exactly the kind of subtle, honest patina that takes decades to achieve. Nothing forced, nothing overdone — just beautifully aged. The Oyster bracelet is the correct ref. 93150, fitted with 580 end links and a clasp stamped VC. It remains in excellent condition and completes the look perfectly. A Maxi Mk5 dial, a beautifully faded grey insert and a case with lugs like these — this is exactly the sort of Submariner that reminds us why vintage Rolex collecting is so addictive.
