We always love discovering watches with a personal history—and this one comes from a passionate diver in Germany! This exceptional 5513 features a strong case paired with a beautifully faded dark grey insert that shows subtle hints of brown. It’s matched with a mirror-like gilt dial and warm yellow patina on the lume of the hour markers and hands. Absolutely stunning. These early black-dial Rolex watches feature what collectors refer to as "gilt dials." The text and outer minute track are printed in a gold tone—hence the term "gilt." In fact, the gold color is the brass dial base showing through, as the dials were printed with the text in relief. The case remains strong all around, with well-defined, even lugs and crown guards. In direct light, a touch of tropical brown emerges from the dial, adding to its vintage charm. The case back is engraved with "Günter Greie Kiel," the name of the original owner of this incredible Submariner. There’s also a fascinating link to this engraving: included in the sale is a photocopy of Günter’s diving pass from the 1960s. Born in the 1930s, Günter joined the "Diving Group Kiel, Germany" in 1964—one of the oldest diving clubs in the country. Notably, many members of the Federal Marine Corps were part of this club, and Kiel remains the home of the German Naval Defense Force headquarters. The watch is fitted with a Rolex reference 7205 riveted bracelet, with end links marked 64 and a clasp stamped 74. It has been fully serviced by our expert watchmaker and is running smoothly.
