De Cartier Santos-Dumont Small, referentie WSSA0023, is een elegante uitvoering van een van de meest herkenbare horlogeontwerpen van het Franse maison. De Santos vindt zijn oorsprong in 1904, toen Louis Cartier een polshorloge ontwierp voor zijn vriend, de Braziliaanse luchtvaartpionier Alberto Santos-Dumont. De karakteristieke vierkante kast, zichtbare schroeven en Romeinse cijfers vormen nog altijd de basis van dit tijdloze ontwerp.
Deze uitvoering is vervaardigd uit roestvrij staal en heeft een kast van 38 mm bij 27,5 mm, met een slanke dikte van slechts 7,3 mm. De kast combineert geborstelde en gepolijste oppervlakken met een vaste, gepolijste lunette waarop de kenmerkende schroeven zichtbaar zijn. De parelvormige kroon is voorzien van een blauwe synthetische spinel in cabochonvorm. Het horloge is uitgerust met krasbestendig saffierglas en heeft een waterdichtheid van 3 bar, overeenkomend met circa 30 meter.
De zilverkleurige wijzerplaat heeft een gesatineerde afwerking met een subtiel zonnestraaleffect en is voorzien van zwarte Romeinse uurcijfers. De centrale, zwaardvormige wijzers zijn vervaardigd uit geblauwd staal en zorgen voor het klassieke contrast dat kenmerkend is voor Cartier. Een fijne chemin-de-fer-minutenschaal omlijst de wijzerplaat. De aanduiding van uitsluitend uren en minuten, zonder secondewijzer of datumvenster, benadrukt het verfijnde en minimalistische karakter van de Santos-Dumont.
Het horloge wordt aangedreven door een hoogautonoom quartz-uurwerk van Cartier. Dit batterijgevoede uurwerk is ontworpen voor een autonomie van ongeveer zes jaar, afhankelijk van het gebruik en de omstandigheden. De quartz-techniek biedt een nauwkeurige en onderhoudsvriendelijke tijdsaanduiding en maakt de bijzonder slanke kastconstructie mogelijk.
Het afgebeelde exemplaar is voorzien van een zwarte lederen band met krokodillenmotief en een stalen gesp in Cartier-stijl. De band sluit aan op de elegante lijnen van de kast en heeft een lichte, crèmekleurige binnenzijde. Op het massieve stalen achterdeksel zijn de Cartier-signatuur, de aanduiding Swiss Made, de materiaalvermelding en de waterdichtheid gegraveerd.
Het horloge wordt aangeboden met de originele rode Cartier-doos, het bijbehorende documentatieboekje en de internationale garantiekaart. Op de kaart staat referentie WSSA0023 vermeld, met een aankoopdatum van 26 april 2014. De foto's tonen lichte gebruikssporen op de gepolijste kast en lunette, evenals normale draagsporen op de lederen band.
