The Chopard Mille Miglia watch series is designed in the spirit of racing, and this is evident in every element of this timepiece's design. The trademark of the iconic "1000 Miglia" race, which gave its name to this series, is proudly positioned on the watch's dial, the crown depicts a racing steering wheel with diamonds, and the strap features the tread pattern of a Dunlop car tire.
Gran Turismo, in turn, is the series that brings together the large designs, and the one presented today is the largest of them - 44 mm. The model was created to celebrate the history of the Mille Miglia automobile race, which took place between 1927-1957, taking competitors over 1000 miles through the Italian countryside from Brescia to Rome and back. In 1977, the Mille Miglia was revived as an event for classic cars produced before 1957. Since 1988, Chopard has sponsored the Mille Miglia race.
The case of this watch is in the contemporary size of 44 mm, which makes it extremely comfortable to wear, the bezel is thin and sloped, and the dial is black with a design that pays homage to the brand's automotive heritage – the numerals and hands are similar to those used in the instruments of racing cars. Arabic numerals for the "6" and "12" hour markers, hands with SuperLuminova inserts, a transparent case back with the name of the car race inscribed – all of this indicates the watch's racing pedigree and makes it very noticeable. Undoubtedly, however, the most remarkable feature of this watch is the case, which is crafted from 18-carat rose gold, and is very massive and heavy not only in a literal, but also in a figurative sense. If you want something that stands out on the wrist and makes you stand out, I don't know a more suitable model for this purpose.
The movement used by the manufacturer in this watch is the A07.111, based on the ETA 7750 – a robust and reliable movement, proven in many brands and models, and easy to maintain.
