Heritage Narrative The Rolex Datejust is a cornerstone of modern watchmaking — the first automatic chronometer wristwatch to display the date through an aperture on the dial. Since its introduction in 1945, it has become a universal symbol of understated luxury and timeless design. This reference 16013, produced in 1978, represents one of the most beloved configurations of the late 20th century: the classic two-tone steel and yellow gold combination. The silver sunburst dial captures light beautifully, while the fluted gold bezel adds depth and character. The acrylic (plexiglass) crystal gives this vintage model its period-correct warmth and subtle distortion that collectors prize. Powered by the Rolex Calibre 3035, this was the first Datejust movement to feature a quickset date — marking a major evolution in daily wearability.
