Description
Nowadays, every Omega enthusiast has the opportunity to choose between three variations of the Seamaster: Seamaster Professional, Seamaster Planet Ocean, and Seamaster Aqua Terra. Of all the contemporary models, the Seamaster Aqua Terra is the one that comes closest to the original with its more dressy character, but as can be expected, the evolution over the years has been significant – both in the brand's design and in the tastes of its enthusiasts.
All models have a screw-down crown, as well as a helium escape valve positioned at "10 o'clock". The automatic versions use an Omega-modified ETA 2892. At the series' introduction, the Omega 1109 caliber was used, but in 1996 it was replaced by the Omega 1120 to improve durability by adding rhodium plating. In 2006, the Seamaster received the Co-Axial Omega 2500 (also based on the ETA 2892), which is still used today. Every Seamaster Professional features a unidirectional bezel – initially with an aluminum insert, and since 2012, Omega began offering the models with a ceramic insert.
Undoubtedly, the most iconic Seamaster Professional is the version with the "wave" dial, and of course – in blue. The color options include blue and black, as well as the rarer white, electric blue, blue-grey, and silver-white. The Seamaster Professional is offered in four sizes – 41 mm is the most common and popular. The chronograph is 42 mm in size with a thickness of 16 mm and, at the time of its introduction, was one of the brand's largest watches. The mid-size version measures 36 mm by 12 mm, and the ladies' version – 28 mm by 10 mm and is powered by a quartz movement.
The model presented here is the Omega Seamaster 300M Chronometer. In the version with a steel bracelet (then with its full name Omega Seamaster Professional Diver), it is known as the "Bond Omega," due to the fact that Pierce Brosnan wore this exact watch in his first film in the role of "Agent 007". The example presented today, however, is the rarer version – with a black dial, a titanium case, and a polished titanium bezel.
