Today, we have the pleasure of presenting to your attention a special watch – the successor to the first men's wristwatch ever created, and proudly bearing on its dial the name of one of the oldest jewelry brands - Cartier Santos Dumont W2SA0028 Steel & Yellow Gold.
In 1904, the good friend of Louis-François Cartier – the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont – complained about the unreliability and impracticality of using a pocket watch during flight. To help their friend, Louis Cartier and Edmond Jaeger decided to create a wristwatch. Their initial idea was to modify a pocket watch, but they soon changed their plans and developed an entirely new design and product.
The watch not only received the approval of Santos-Dumont, but also became a hit among the jeweler's clients. Thus, the timeless design of the Cartier Santos was born – we call it "timeless" because this happened back in the distant 1904, and the pilot's name became the name of one of the most popular watch models.
With its geometric shape and visible screws, the watch quickly established itself as a Cartier classic.
The version presented today is perhaps one of the most eye-catching interpretations of the Santos. One of the reasons is that it is not "burdened" with complications – the design is clean, yet exceptionally impactful and suitable for any style. The other reason is the abundant use of 18-karat yellow gold.
The steel octagonal crown is adorned with elements of solid 18-karat yellow gold and the iconic blue cabochon. The grey dial bears the characteristic Cartier golden Roman numerals and golden sword-shaped hands. The grey strap pairs perfectly with the dial and gives the watch an exceptionally elegant look.
The model pairs equally well with both casual and formal styles. At its heart works an in-house Cartier quartz caliber, which ensures reliability and significantly lower maintenance and servicing costs.
