Description
When the first Rolex Datejust was introduced in 1945 – the year of the brand's 40th anniversary – it made history as the first automatic waterproof certified chronometer with a date on the dial. The "Cyclops" was added in 1955 to magnify the date display two and a half times, thus making it more legible and clear, and this feature became one of the most recognizable Rolex hallmarks of all.
Rolex could not fail to cater to the fairer half of humanity and offer ladies' versions of the Datejust in several different sizes and with countless variations of bracelets, bezels, and dials. The model presented today is one of the most elegant sizes – 26 mm, and perhaps in the best (at least in our opinion) combination – solid yellow gold, a classic fluted bezel, a gold dial with Roman numerals, and a President bracelet. It is precisely because of this combination that this model acquired the nickname Lady President.
Indeed, the detail of this watch (as with all modern Rolex models we have had the opportunity to handle) is impressive. A closer look reveals the jeweller's craftsmanship, and the overall impression is exceptionally aristocratic. Starting with the incredible dial (in this case, a classic gold dial with yellow gold Roman numerals), moving on to the classic sapphire with the "Cyclops" – the brand's highest-grade sapphire is used here, which allows for a reduction in the overall height of the watch compared to its predecessors.
Of course, the case and bezel deserve special attention – a masterful combination of polished 18-carat yellow gold with faceted polished edges and details in certain places (as is well known, Rolex pays special attention to the materials used and has its own foundries for the production of all its alloys). The bezel is the brand's characteristic "fluted" style, which gives it an exceptional radiance and has nothing in common with the "smooth" bezel version – they are simply different watches. This one has a strong presence on the wrist, and the fact that the bezel is made of 18-carat gold further enhances the overall impression.
And of course, the bracelet – or the bracelet, as you prefer to call it – as can be expected from Rolex, is of an exceptionally high standard. In this case, it is the classic President bracelet, crafted from solid 18-carat yellow gold.
