Undoubtedly, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is legendary in every respect, just as there is no doubt that this timepiece is a worthy representative for any collection. The first FF was launched back in 1953 and for more than 60 years has continued to be one of the icons for admirers of the art of watchmaking all over the world.
The presented model is part of the Bathyscaphe series – whose task is to satisfy the tastes of those Fifty Fathoms admirers who cannot fit the huge cases of the "original" FF with its impressive 45 mm on their wrist. The presented watch has a case size of 43 mm and despite the fact that the diameter is not much smaller than the FF, due to the case construction it looks and wears much more compact than it. Besides the size, the other significant difference is that the model offers not only the functions of an annual calendar, but also the moon phases. We have a fondness for watches with a moon phase, and this one offers this feature in combination with a full annual calendar, all in a model with water resistance up to 300 m – what better proposition could an active traveler ask for. The version with a dark grey dial (Blancpain calls it “Grey meteor”) and a bezel with a black ceramic insert was launched in 2018 and became highly sought-after by all fans of the brand. And the classic for the FF series “sail-canvas” strap with a standard buckle only enhances its presence. On the other hand are all the features that show this watch carries the DNA of a true Fifty Fathoms – water resistance of 300 m, the abundant SuperLumiNova on the indices, bezel, and hands – all of this confirms the timepiece's affiliation with the famous line of this respected manufacturer.
The case back of the watch is transparent, and this gives us the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful mechanics, bearing the name Blancpain Calibre 6654.P.4, an in-house automatic movement with two barrels, a power reserve of over 72 hours, 321 components, and 28 jewels, operating at 4 Hz. And the finishing of the movement is of a very high level and once again answers the question of why this brand is so valuable and valued.
All of this is offered in a stunning box in the form of a professional weapon case – befitting a tool for professionals and once again confirming the brand's proverbial attention to detail.
