Description
Today we have the pleasure of presenting to your attention another representative of the so-called “Holy Trinity” in the art of watchmaking. And while Patek Philippe has the honor of being the prerogative of the most affluent and established admirers of this art, and Audemars Piguet has the role of satisfying the pursuits and desires of the more sporty and "nonchalant" ladies and gentlemen, Vacheron Constantin is undoubtedly bestowed the honor of satisfying the pursuits of that part of watch lovers who seek the different, the beautiful, and the perfect in everything they own. And so, ladies and gentlemen, for your attention – Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time 7900V/110A-B334. We will not hide that for us, this brand is one of our most beloved, and we always approach every piece that comes to us with awe and hidden excitement. It is not for nothing that there have been very few cases where we have had the pleasure of writing about one of its representatives – simply, until now, all the timepieces that have reached us have changed ownership very quickly, and we were unable to give them the proper attention. Audemars Piguet has its Royal Oak, Patek Philippe has its Nautilus, and at Vacheron Constantin, the honor of playing the role of the "sporty player" in the collection falls precisely to the Overseas. And while a tremendous amount has been written about the first two, and all sorts of known and unknown connoisseurs, admirers, and mere "journalists" have practiced describing the models' histories and their merits, almost nothing has been written about this "saint," and thus it remains overshadowed. Unlike the Royal Oak and Nautilus, Gerald Genta did not have a hand in the creation of this watch (What a surprise?!), but the name of its creator is no less famous – this is Jorg Hysek, who created no small number of remarkable models from the end of the 20th Century. Let's take a closer look at this luxurious "overseas foreigner" and "see what it's all about." Before we do, however, we want to draw your attention to the fact that this is a representative of the newest and most current version of the model, first presented at SIHH in 2016. All models of the Overseas line have a fresh, hand-engraved dial – the previous generations have distinct rhombus shapes on it, while this one returns to the classic look with a sunburst effect and is made of Laiton Générique CuZn. Today's example is in a silvery-white color – a much-liked configuration. Also, around the edge of the crystal, there is a bezel in the form of brackets with the relief of the Maltese cross from the brand's logo. All of this is inspired by the remarkable ancestor of all Overseas – Model 222. The other differences compared to the previous generation are very interesting—first, VC managed to create a case that is anti-magnetic and at the same time has a transparent case back; second, the bracelet now has a quick-change system that allows you to change the look of your watch without having to visit a watchmaker's workshop, and the fact that the set includes an additional leather and rubber strap makes changing the watch's appearance very easy and fast. At the heart of the watch is the brand's new generation in-house automatic movement – Caliber 5110 DT – with improved characteristics compared to previous generations, 234 components, 37 jewels, working at 28,800 vibrations and with a power reserve of over 60 hours. Thanks to its precise craftsmanship and attention to detail, it is certified with the Hallmark of Geneva and the Geneva Seal – two of the rarest and most difficult standards to achieve in the watchmaking industry. The case back is transparent, and for this reason, we can enjoy this movement and see its beautifully decorated rotor, which is made of solid 22-karat gold.
