The Quadrato is Ulysse Nardin's modern answer to the clients' desire to own more distinct and unusual timepieces. Everything about this timepiece demonstrates this – the square shape of the case (it is no wonder where the name comes from), the design and layout of the dial, the material used. The watch is rather extravagant, with a massive presence on the wrist – with its shape, it will certainly not go unnoticed and stands apart from the mainstream. The combination of the blue central part and the black "outer ring" of the dial is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful and balanced combinations of all the options offered by the manufacturer due to the clean colors and the use of three primary colors – black, blue, and steel. The double anti-reflective coating is so effective that at certain angles, it creates the impression that you can touch the dial and the hands with nothing to stop you. The other thing that is difficult to see from the photos is the satin-matte finish of the dial. At some angles, it creates the impression that the dial has its own radiance, which scatters sunrays all around. The luminescence is bright enough – thanks to its relatively large markers, the dial and hands remain legible even in the darkest conditions. During the day, the anti-reflective coating makes the dial very clear, and the large double date makes this indication recognizable with a quick glance. As in most of its contemporary models, here too Ulysse Nardin's case back is transparent, and this provides an opportunity to enjoy the movement that powers this work of horological art. In this case, under the name UN Calibre 24 lies an ETA 2892-A2, but with additional modules for a double date and a 24-hour indicator – I have no information about what modifications the manufacturer has made to the movement, but I am sure of one thing – the highest grade of movements was used for this purpose, the so-called Chronometer grade, and visually UN have strived not to spare imagination and resources to bring it to perfection. This particular watch is offered on a crocodile leather strap, which is much more suitable for such a specimen, because in this way the overall combination is much more complete.
