Today, we are pleased to present to you a special timepiece – heir to the first men's wristwatch ever created and proudly bearing on its dial the name of one of the oldest jewelry brands.
In 1904, the good friend of Louis-François Cartier, the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, complained about the unreliability and impracticality of using a pocket watch during flight. To help their friend, Louis Cartier and Edmond Jaeger decided to produce a wristwatch – their initial idea was to adapt a pocket watch, but before long they changed their plans and conceived a completely new design and, consequently, a new product.
The watch not only received the approval of Santos-Dumont, but became a hit among the jeweler's many clients. Thus, from this event, the timeless design of the Cartier Santos was born – we say "timeless" precisely because this happened back in 1904, and the pilot's name became the name of one of the most popular watch models. With its geometric shape and exposed screws, the watch quickly became a Cartier classic.
The version of the model presented here is perhaps one of the most eye-catching versions of the Santos – and the main reason is the use of precious materials and a large quantity of diamonds.
The steel octagonal crown is adorned with a beautiful blue synthetic stone, the gold dial bears Cartier's famous black Roman numerals and blued-steel sword-shaped hands. The steel bracelet is decorated with gold screws, pairs perfectly with the gold dial and gives the watch a very elegant look. The watch pairs well with both everyday and formal attire. At its heart beats the brand's in-house movement, the Cartier Calibre 1847 MC – an automatic with 23 jewels, a power reserve of 42 hours, and operating at 28,800 vibrations.
