Old School Vintage Rolex Models you can Buy!

When taking a look at the market of old school Rolex watches, there's plenty to choose from. With Rolex producing watches since 1905, numerous models have stood the test of time and become iconic pieces. Today, we're taking a look at some of the coolest old school Rolex pieces you can possibly find. From divers to dress watches and everything in between, these time-traveling fashion statements are not only stylish but also hold significant investment value. You might just find one you'd want to add to your collection!

Old-School Divers: Rolex Submariner 5513

Let’s kick off this list with one of the most iconic watches that Rolex has to offer you. The Rolex Submariner. Not just any Submariner though. The piece we want to highlight is the vintage Submariner No-Date bearing the reference number 5513. This Sub is really the essence of the watch as we can see it to this day. First of all, the date window. Some would say the real sub should be able to tell you the date of the month. The first Submariner that has ever left the Rolex factory (ref. 6204) did not feature a date window, so many say that the real Rolex Submariner should not have this function. The Sub 5513 did not house a COSC certified movement, in comparison to the 5512. Because of this, there is less text on the dial, which gives a cleaner look to the watch overall. The 5513 comes in different variants. All of them have a black dial, but the 5513 has evolved along the way. For all these different variants we can write you a whole different blog, but the variant we like the most is the Non-serif dial with a faded bezel. Why a faded bezel? Vintage. Compared to the newer models, these are a bit more expensive. Newer subs can be found around the 10k mark. These watches are found for anywhere upwards of €13.000. Some specific more sought after variants even sell for close to €25.000!

Cool and Classy: The Cellini

Among al the well-known watches Rolex have ever sold, there are also some lesser known models. The model we want to tell you about is the Rolex Cellini. The Rolex Cellini comes in loads of different variations, with probably the Rolex King Midas as the most popular one. There is however one thing that all these Cellini models have in common, and that is that they are very elegant dress watches. Most of these are made of precious metals, like 18k white or rose gold. There are some pretty cool, more unusual pieces like the Rolex Cellini Danaos. This watch has a divided dial, with air-king-like hour markers. Pretty cool piece if you ask me, but there are even cooler pieces. Take a look for yourself, if there is a Cellini you would like to add to your collection.

Presidential on a strap: Vintage Day-Date

While some would argue that the only way to wear a Rolex Day-Date is on its iconic Presidential 3-link bracelet, I would say that a well thought-through leather strap would fit this watch just as well. When introduced in 1956, the day-date was the first watch in the Rolex catalogue where people could not only read the date of the month, but also the day. Was this the reason that presidents like Nixon and Reagan wore this watch? Not sure. It is a very stylish piece though! This watch can be found in different variations as well, but I would definitely recommend you to go for the yellow gold case, champagne dial, four digit 1803. It is not only a very iconic watch, but the pricetag is also somewhat interesting. I am not saying that it is a cheap watch, but these watches on a leather strap can be found for less than €10.000!

Vintage Racing Legacy: The Rolex Daytona 6265

Now, let's shift gears and explore the captivating realm of vintage racing chronographs with a vintage Rolex Daytona. More specifically the four digit Daytona’s. This 6265 for example. This timepiece, born in the early 1970s, has earned its stripes as a must-have for both racing enthusiasts and avid watch collectors. The Daytona 6265, with its sturdy build and precise timekeeping, has rightfully earned its place as one of the coolest vintage Rolex watches. he Daytona 6265 sports an enduring design that has aged like fine wine. Crafted from stainless steel, its case exudes durability, while the screw-down pushers and the unmistakable tachymeter bezel pay homage to its racing roots. This vintage gem relies on a manual-winding movement, appealing to those who appreciate the old-school charm of winding their timepieces. Newer pieces only feature the automatic movements, but winding up your watch once a day has its charm. Pricing wise, these watches are for the more wealthy once among us. Good luck coming across a 4 digit Daytona for less than €60.000.
