Cartier Tank Louis ‘Mosaic’: a Cult Classic

The background story on the Mosaic dial

Already a few years back, in 2023, Cartier released the Cartier Tank Louis in solid gold with its crazy cool mosaic dial. Worn on a grey alligator strap, this watch just hits different. Cartier released two versions of the Mosaic dial, one shown here in the photos, and the other one in rose gold with a more sophisticated look. We’re diving into the first option: the yellow gold Cartier Tank with its Mosaic dial. Damn, what a stunner.

The watch itself is a Tank Louis in the large size: it measures 33.7mm x 25.5mm and is only 6.6mm thick, so it’s really, really comfortable to wear. The reference bears WGTA0175 and the case and buckle are made of solid yellow gold, and its powered by the manually wound 1917MC Cartier Caliber. This movement can be found in multiple Tank Louis and Asymétrique Tank watches. That’s 38 hours of reserve packed into just 6.6mm of height, which is pretty impressive.

The real joy

The fun begins when you’re inspecting this dial. I mean, I’ve had the pleasure to photograph this piece, to feel it. Get used to it. And the rest of the day (sorry team), I was just looking at the watch. It’s simply amazing, and it’s something that I’ve never seen before. Not even anything like it. We don’t know how Cartier managed to create this dial, since they won’t release any information on it. But it might be a lacquer.

We’re fortunate enough to see and hold multiple crazy watches every week, but this? This really is my personal favorite of all the 1.000+ watches we’ve sold so far. It’s elegant, it’s sexy, built different, standing out without shouting in your face. The perfect balance, if you ask me. A show-stopper, but also a conversation starter. One of the craziest things about this watch? We’ve had a request from this customer, let’s call him Mr J, and he wanted this watch so badly, that he reached out to us. We managed to find one, got it sent over to our humble HQ and Mr J flew over here. From New York to our HQ. Wow. I’m still stunned by this.

Unique but the same dial on every piece

Usually when it comes to crazy dials on watches, no dial is the same. But, for this Louis Cartier Tank it is: every dial on the Mosaic version is identical. The same goes for the packaging, since this is the regular jewelry box you’ll get when shopping at Cartier.<br>Exact numbers aren’t released just yet, but Cartier made probably less than 110 units. It’s discontinued, so it’s really hard to find one. It took us a couple of weeks as well, while we usually get our hands on the perfect deal within 48 hours, so this was a real challenge. But, we managed. And made someone really happy.

Discontinued, popular and high demand

When it comes to Cartier watches, the demand keeps rising. Especially with online influencers like Mike Nouveau to really put Cartier out there as the next big thing. Ask all your collector friends you know, show them this Cartier Tank and you’ll get to hear why it’s so special and pretty interesting. It’s got that 70s disco vibe, very elegant and sexy at the same time. And already discontinued, so you can guess what will happen to prices when they become available.
